Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB DDR4-2666 CL16 Memory Kit Review

Specification

Ballistix Elite 16GB DDR4 spec1

At the first look specification is quite standard. We are receiving four memory modules which are working at declared speed of DDR4-2666 CL16-17-17 and voltage of 1.2V.

Below we can see screenshots from popular diagnostic programs showing us SPD and XMP profiles of Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4-2666 memory kit.

Our review sample has only one XMP profile what is enough. I think that most users who decide on this memory will try manual settings anyway but all who wish to use settings specified by manufacturer can of course enable XMP profile.

In the windows below we can see that diagnostic software has some problems to read SPD/XMP profiles right. I can assure you that on our test motherboard which is ASUS Rampage V Extreme all was working without issues.

Crucial designed Ballistix M.O.D. utility for their enthusiast grade memory kits which is reading temperature and can manage addtitional features like LED lighting on a Tracer series memory. Memory from Elite series has no LED lights so this option is unavailable.

Closer Look

Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 package is similar to what we could see in earlier Elite series memory from Crucial. It’s a simple transparent box or maybe blister type package. Solid enough to protect memory for the time of transport and includes all required info.

Inside the package we can find four DDR4 memory modules. All are the same, matched to work in quad channel configuration.

New heatsinks look great. For me it’s the best looking memory on the market right now. Simple but with style. Black and gunmetal mix of colors gives them unique looks. There are also no unnecesary labels or other markings which usually spoil the effect. On the back is only small sticker with product name and serial number. Simple as that.

You can also see white Ballistix Elite signs which look good, especially when all memory slots are occupied.

On the next pages we can see additional photos but right now I think we can move to the Performance page to look at the test results as they’re probably most important when we decide what memory to buy.
