G.Skill Sniper X 16GB DDR4-3600 Memory Kit Review

Performance

Performance has been tested on the Intel Coffee Lake platform which contains the i5 8600K processor and the SuperO C7Z370-CG-IW motherboard. For 3D tests, we’ve used EVGA GTX1060 6GB ITX graphics card. I could say that nothing really unusual and many our readers have probably similar setup at home.

All results in comparison are based on typical memory settings so regardless if you use reviewed Sniper X or other memory kit at these settings, it will perform about the same. Additionally, there are results at XMP settings of DDR4-3600 19-19-19 and overclocked settings of DDR4-3866 20-20-20.

AIDA64 Memory and Cache benchmark will be our first test.

Sniper X DDR4-3600 has pretty good bandwidth results at XMP settings so I guess that most users should be satisfied. Overclocked results are of course better but not so much to try overclocking at all cost.

Also, memory write and copy results are showing that higher frequency offers much higher bandwidth than standard memory kits at DDR4-2133/2666. DDR4-3333 is already showing big improvement and is not much slower than the DDR4-3600 at more relaxed timings.

In 3D tests like VRMark, we can’t see big difference between various memory settings. XMP setting of DDR4-3600 CL19 and DDR4-3333 CL16 settings are the fastest in all VRMark tests.

The Cyan Room.

Here are also results in the most demanding Blue Room. Results are scaling in the same way as in other VRMark tests.

In rendering benchmarks like Cinebench R15, we can see the same story so DDR4-3333 and DDR4-3600 are providing the best results. On the other hand, difference is not so big so we see that most operations base on the CPU performance.

HyperPi 32M loves fast memory and we can see it in our results. DDR4-3333 and higher speed are offering us the best results which are clearly better than the DDR4-2133 and DDR4-2666.

At the end 7-Zip compression and decompression test which we can find in SPECwpc v2.1.

In both, compression and decompression tests we can see that performance is generally going up with higher memory speed. The only exception is DDR4-2133 result in decompression test and I can’t really explain that but this result is repeatable.

Performance of the Sniper X DDR4-3600 memory kit is high and should satisfy all gamers. For them, this memory was designed. I’ve also noticed that price isn’t really high compared to other memory kits what should convince users to this memory series.

On the next page, you can check how the Sniper X memory is overclocking as there are always users who need higher performance.
