G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16GB DDR4-3600 CL14 Memory Kit Review

Specifications and Closer Look

Specifications

The tested memory kit has one XMP profile, optimized for AMD Ryzen X570 and B550 motherboards with the 3000 series processors, maybe excluding the APU, which usually works at DDR4-3600 but it’s not a rule.

  • XMP Profile #1: DDR4-3600 CL14-15-15 @1.45V

The XMP profile works without issues on our ASRock and ASUS motherboards. It also works fine on Intel Z490 ASRock and MSI motherboards.

For most users, the most important is stability at the rated speed, so below is a screenshot from the AIDA64 stability test, which shows there are no problems with our memory at DDR4-3600 CL14.

CPU-Z is also showing us Samsung memory IC that are the best hand-picked B-die chips, which we can find on the market. It’s maybe obvious for enthusiasts and extreme overclockers, but other users may not be aware of this fact. This is one of the reasons why this memory is not cheap.

Package and its Contents

The TridentZ Neo comes in a flat box with a window through which we can see one of the memory modules. On the back, we can also see product and serial numbers of memory modules. On the package, we won’t find much info, but there is everything we need, such as a general description of the memory kit and the manufacturer’s contact.

Inside the package, we will find two 8GB memory modules and a sticker with the G.Skill logo. I’m somehow surprised that the same sticker survived so many years. I mentioned it some months ago that it would be nice to refresh it as the competition already did it. Nothing critical, but I guess still worth mentioning.

The installation is simple, and most uses won’t have any problems with that. Those who aren’t sure how to install the memory should check the user’s manual so they won’t damage anything.

As I mentioned earlier, the Neo DDR4-3600 is based on Samsung memory chips, which suppose to be already discontinued. However, top memory manufacturers are still releasing their best memory series on the B-die IC. So far, it’s the best memory IC for overclocking. Yet, it’s slowly being replaced by Hynix and Micron, which is available at higher capacities and can run at even higher frequencies. On the other hand, higher frequency not always means higher performance. We can see that on the AMD Ryzen 3000, which works the best with infinity fabric at the same frequency as RAM. In most cases, it limits us to DDR4-3600, and the best processors can go as high as up to DDR4-3800. G.Skill has in its offer the DDR4-3800 CL14 memory kit, which is the highest Neo model. Still, as I said, it’s not guaranteed that every processor will be able to run at this memory speed and 1:1 infinity fabric ratio. On the next pages, I will show you some overclocking results.

The design of the TridentZ Neo is not much different from what we used to see in the previous TridentZ memory series. The main difference makes two different colors which are dividing the module. A simple way to refresh already popular memory design, but at the same time, it looks high-end and should match every gaming PC.

Of course, TridentZ Neo is equipped with RGB lighting, which can be controlled by the motherboard’s software or G.Skill’s software. Both ways work without problems so we can enjoy amazing RGB effects in the most convenient way for us.

Let’s move to some performance tests with more results than usual as the TridentZ Neo can run at a wide range of settings, which should satisfy every user.
