Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3-1866 CL10 Memory Review

Conclusion

New memory series are not releasing too often but we have the HyperX Fury memory which is a totally new series with some new features.

The first thing that we noticed is brand new design. The HyperX Fury is available in four colors which is good as we can pick the one that best fits into our PC’s color scheme. Kingston also moved to a black PCB which is good for computer enthusiasts who had already had enough of the standard green PCB that is found in most other series.

The most important feature is probably the SPD profile instead of XMP. Some users may think it is a disadvantage but all we have to do to use HyperX Fury at declared settings is to set everything on auto or simply don’t touch anything in BIOS/UEFI. The memory will run without any issues no matter if our board is reading XMP profiles correctly or not. That is why the HyperX Fury is compatible with nearly every chipset and motherboard available on the market regardless if it is Intel or AMD.

The performance is good and above average; however memory kits built on single sided modules (4GB) are slightly slower than double sided (8GB). That is not to say that we will see a big difference in daily usage but it is worth the mention. The same differences we find in any other memory kits on the market no matter who manufactured them.

Overclocking is quite important for many users and in this case we can expect on pretty big headroom. The memory kit that I had chance to test could run stable up to 1400MHz (DDR3-2800) CL12-14-14 which is a really good result for a DDR3-1866 memory. The memory tested in our review was a retail kit so probably most other HyperX Fury 1866 are overclocking in similar way.

Looking at memory market we can say that HyperX Fury is inexpensive. Prices for 1866 8GB kit are starting at about $80 USD. It is actually good that we have a new memory series at such a reasonable price which also offers high performance and great looks.

Pros:

  • Low price
  • High overclocking potential
  • Problem-free installation and configuration
  • Great looks
  • Good performance/value ratio

Cons:

  • Performance of 4GB modules is slightly lower than expected

Final words:

Kingston HyperX Fury is a great, new memory series. It has everything that most gamers and enthusiasts need including high performance, great looks, and more importantly, a reasonable price. It is an optimal memory kit for those who care about high quality products but have a limited budget. The long warranty and good support are additional advantages of this product.

I can recommend HyperX Fury series to all gamers and those who like exceptional looks of their PC.
