Lexar ARES DDR5-5200 32GB Memory Kit Review

Conclusion and Verdict

Last year, we’ve tested Lexar’s HADES RGB DDR4-3600 ram, and they perform beautifully. And I’m please to say their ARES DDR5-5200 performed likewise.

With all memory settings on AUTO and XMP 3.0 enabled, the Lexar ARES DDR5-5200 performed as expected. During the AIDA64 memory tests, we got a memory Read speed of 70,524 MB/s, Write speed of 66,815 MB/s and a Copy speed of 66,641 MB/s.

Aesthetically, these modules look pretty sleek with its dark grey heatspreaders and should match pretty well with any PC build. Full load temps hit a high of 46 degrees Celisus. It’s higher than I expected, but the included heatspreader seems to be doing an adequate job of cooling the ram.

Sadly, the review kits we received did not come with any RGB, however we’ve been told they will release a RGB version later this year. If you’re a big fan of RGB, watch out for those.

As far as overclocking is concerned, I wasn’t able to overclock these memory modules past DDR5-5400. Anything above this speed would result in system crash. Still, a slight overclock is better than no overclock. I guess it’s a limitation with the Micron memory ICs, and also a matter of compatibility over overclockability.

DDR5 ram is still considered a luxury over DDR4 ram. In any case, you’ll need a motherboard that can support DDR5 ram. And right now only the Z690 motherboards (supporting Intel’s 12th gen Core processors) can support it. However, good news is coming … AMD’s imminent release of their Ryzen 7000 series processors, along with their new 600-series chipset motherboards are rumored to support DDR5 ram. When DDR5 becomes more mainstream, prices will naturally come down.
