Lexar ARES DDR5-5200 32GB Memory Kit Review

Lately, Lexar has been producing a lot of memory kits for desktops. We’ve already reviewed their DDR4 UDIMMs and their Hades RGB DDR4 memory kits, and both these memory kits offers good performance and value.

And now it’s time to take a look at their latest product … the Lexar ARES DDR5-5200 32GB memory kit. These memory kits are XMP 3.0 ready and are designed to run at DDR5-5200 speeds with a CAS latency of 38-38-38-73 operating on a voltage of 1.25v.

They come with some nice gun-metal grey heatspreader but sadly no RGB. On closer inspection, we found that these modules are using memory ICs from Micron, which are known to work well with most Z690 motherboards.

Prices of DDR5 ram is still fairly expensive, although they are slowly coming down. As of April 2022, prices range from USD $400 to $550 for a 32GB kit. One thing you also need to take in to account, is that DDR5 is not backward compatible with DDR4, so this means if you want to use the DDR5 ram, you’ll have to buy yourself a new Z690 motherboard that supports DDR5 ram.

I would like to thank Lexar for providing this review sample! Let us see what Lexar has to say about themselves on their website:

One thing you’ll notice when running DDR5 ram, is that the system will show Quad Channel mode. For those who don’t know … DDR5 gives you two 32-bit wide (40-bit wide, with ECC) channels per stick, which means that you get a quad-channel configuration when running two DIMMs.

With a default speed of DDR5-5200 using XMP profiles 3.0, I’m expecting some decent performance from these memory kits. But what will be interesting to see, is whether these Micron memory ICs can overclock as well as the SK Hynix memory ICs found on the ADATA and Thermaltake DDR5 memory kits, we tested in the past.

We’ll be testing the Lexar ARES DDR5-5200 32GB memory modules on our test rig, which includes an Gigabyte Z690 AORUS Ultra motherboard, along with an Intel Core i9-12900FK processor and a ASRock Radeon RX 6500 XT (4GB GDDR6) graphics card.

Let’s dive straight in and begin by taking a look at the specifications and features on our next page. You can buy the Lexar ARES DDR5-5200 32GB kit for around USD $369.99 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3rKdymQ
