Lexar DDR4-3200 SODIMM 32GB Laptop Memory Kit Review

Laptops and notebooks have always been popular among business users, thanks to its portability and compact size. But recently, we’ve seen a surge in gaming laptops and ultrabooks for general everyday use. This is no surprise, especially when the overall performance of mobile processors and graphics cards have been increasing over the past couple of years. We’re now seeing gaming laptops powered by processors with 8-cores, as well having powerful mobile GeForce RTX/Radeon Graphics onboard.

Laptop memory size have also increased steadily, from 4GB or 8GB to 16GB and all the way up to 32GB. My gaming laptop for example, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with 16GB of DDR4-3200 as standard (single channel), with the option to upgrade to 32GB (dual channel) via a single SODIMM slot. If you’re using a laptop for gaming or content creation, I think the minimum amount of ram should be at least 16GB.

If you take a look online, there aren’t many choices when it comes to high-speed laptop memory. Lexar are among one of only a few manufacturers that prodce memory upgrades for laptops, and thanks to their kindness, they’ve sent us their DDR4-3200 SODIMM 32GB (16GB x 2) laptop memory kit for us to review.

I would like to thank Lexar for providing this review sample! Let us see what Lexar has to say about themselves on their website:

These memory modules have the usual 260-pin for the SODIMM interface/slot. They operate at 1.2V and offer speeds of up to DDR4-3200, but also able to run at lower speeds of DDR4-2666. There’s no mention of CAS latency.

We’ll be testing the Lexar DDR4-3200 SODIMMs on our gaming laptop, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with an onboard GeForce RTX 3060. I will be interesting to see what difference an extra 16GB of ram will make.
