Patriot Viper 4 Blackout 128GB DDR4-3600 Memory Kit Review

Overclocking

Disclaimer: Overclocking is never guaranteed so that the results may vary depending on certain conditions and various hardware configurations. I am not recommending overclocking if you do not know what you are doing. High voltages may damage hardware, and it will not be covered by warranty.

Overclocking tests were performed on the same platform as was used in the performance tests, so the i9-10900K processor and ASRock Z490 PG Velocita motherboard.

The tightest timings at the DDR4-3600 that we could set, and still keep full stability, were CL16-19-19-42 and tRFC 780. For this setting, we had to use 1.40V VDIMM what isn’t far from the default 1.35V. Going up to 1.5V, it wasn’t possible to set anything tighter while knowing Hynix IC; it wouldn’t give us performance improvement, so we’ve stopped here.

The maximum memory clock possible on our memory kit is DDR4-4000 what maybe isn’t really high but quite respectable considering that we are overclocking 128GB memory kit. Used timings are not so relaxed comparing available memory kits. For example, many new 16GB memory kits have XMP profiles exactly the same as we could set our 128GB kit. Even though there could always be better, then we can’t complain at overclocking results, especially that barely anyone who decides on such high memory capacity will think about overclocking.
