Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series DDR4 16GB (2 x 8GB) 4133MHz Memory Review

Conclusion and Verdict

Let me start off by saying these were a challenge on my AMD setup. I was never able to get the system to boot using the XMP profile on my B550. These are still very new chipset so hopefully we will get more support in this area. I had to manually enter all the timing and voltages to get the 3933MHz speeds. You can those setting on the previous pages. And I’m not about to mess with the Infinity Fabric Clock quite yet. What I changed is very simple and easy enough for anybody to do also. With that being said I wasn’t totally disappointed not hitting the 4133MHz on my AMD setup. Just keep in mind if you purchase these for your AMD rig you may be required to adjust a few of the setting to get them to run properly. As far as the Intel system went, I just put them in, activated XMP, and away we went. The RAM performed as well as expected on both systems.

RAM can be overclocked and underclocked to achieve the timings you are looking for. I have seen this go both way. You can gain performance in one benchmark but lose it in another. So it is best to find that happy medium. And that medium is usually provided by the manufacture. They thoroughly test their RAM a lot more than we do and we can trust that Patriot has put in that effort. We are basically reporting, what they claim there RAM will do, will in fact do. But their is more performance we can squeeze out of RAM just by changing the timings by one point. The best thing about overclocking RAM, Its hard to destroy. Usually if you set something wrong it usually just wont boot. Just don’t crank the voltages over the rating and you should be safe changing all the other stuff. Familiarize yourself with your CMOS reset because you will be utilizing it quite often.

Final thoughts:

The Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series DDR4 4133MHz 16GB RAM is an extremely fast memory kit for both Intel and AMD platforms. This memory can be a little tricky for an AMD setup, but once you find the sweet spot this RAM will run close to the 4133MHz (3933MHZ, 3700x on a B550 board) on an AMD system.
