TeamGroup Dark Z FPS 16GB DDR4-4000 CL16 Memory Kit Review

Package and its Contents

The Dark Z FPS package is similar to that of other, higher series Team Group memory kits. It’s a quite small, flat box which is well-described and contains all the info we may need, including general RAM specifications, product numbers, and support contact. There is also a red sign telling us that the RAM has a lifetime warranty. This is typical for Team Group products.

The package and product naming suggest that the memory kit is designed for FPS games, where FPS means both first-person shooter and frames per second. As long as these terms mean something totally different, they are closely related.

Inside the box, we will find two 8GB memory modules rated at DDR4-4000 CL16-18-18 and 1.45V. This is a well-balanced XMP profile that gives us high memory bandwidth and low latency. 16GB total capacity doesn’t seem like much nowadays, but it’s still more than enough for most games. It also gives us a chance to tighten the timings even more and achieve better results.

Memory modules are built on a black PCB and are protected by black aluminum heatsinks with a white design that may suggest some futuristic games. The memory modules don’t have any illumination. This is good info for all who care about pure performance and don’t want to pay a premium for RGB LEDs. On the other hand, I assume that some users wish to have the same specifications with additional RGB lighting. In this case, I recommend checking Team Group’s website as there are other memory series with RGB illumination like the latest Xtreem.

Even though there are no additional RGB LEDs or anything else, memory modules look great. Below you can see some photos of the test rig. The memory kit was tested on both AMD and Intel platforms. Presented results were made on the latest Intel Rocket Lake-S platform with the i7-11700K CPU. This is because Intel is losing less at asynchronous memory controller ratios and is overclocking easier at higher frequencies.

On the next page of this review, we will take a closer look at the performance.
