The NIGHTSWORD RGB uses a custom PMW3391 optical sensor, developed in conjunction with PixArt, ensuring incredibly high performance and accuracy. Its DPI can be precisely adjusted from 100 up to a native 18,000, in single DPI steps. It delivers instantaneous response across the entire resolution range, enabling advanced tracking accuracy, consistent responsiveness at any speed, and high-speed motion detection. High sensitivity allows for small mouse movements to correspond to larger movements on screen (for speed), whereas low sensitivity allows for small movements (for pixel-perfect precision). The resolution can be adjusted on-the-fly between three DPI presets, which are preconfigured to 800, 1,500, and 3,000 DPI. These values can be fully customized via CORSAIR iCUE software. The NIGHTSWORD RGB’s optical sensor can track and report the position of the cursor at speeds up to 400 inches per second, with a mouse acceleration of up to 50G. Many games and styles of play – especially low-sensitivity gaming, such as sniping – involve rapidly moving the mouse from one side of the mouse pad to the other. For these movements to be tracked accurately (and for your actions to be accurately reflected on-screen), the sensor must be able to report data precisely at high speeds and the mouse must be able to handle rapid acceleration.

The polling rate is how often the mouse communicates its status to the computer. A typical non-gaming mouse will have a polling rate of around 8ms, meaning it communicates information to the PC 125 times per second. This is fine for normal desktop PC use, but not for gaming, where constant, rapid mouse movements and high precision are keys to success. The NIGHTSWORD RGB has a polling rate of 1000Hz, communicating information from the mouse to the PC 1000 times every second.
