Cougar 500k Gaming Keyboard Review

Conclusion and Verdict

In conclusion, the 500k surpasses many of my personal expectations. Cougar has made a very affordable gaming keyboard with very little downside. I really liked the 6 G-keys even though the 6th G-key is split with the spacebar, with the default setting being the space.

For users that have become accustom to using their right thumb for the spacebar may encounter some interference with any macro you may want to assign that particular key. You may quickly want to change that if that is your preference.

Previously noted, Cougar does not send software with the keyboard and you have to extract the files from the website, which is a bit of a hassle. With that being said, the software is very easy to use and is what makes the 500k such a great bargain. All these parts are the engine to this very slick ride.

The COUGAR 500k can be found on Newegg and other various e-tailers for around $80 USD.

Pros:

  • NKRO
  • Detachable palm rest
  • Braided cable
  • Gold plated USB plug
  • Plenty of rubber feet
  • Spacing between keys and frame

Cons:

  • Only backlight color option is orange

Final thoughts:

The on the fly Marco recording and mode switch keys make your gaming experience a one of a kind. COUGAR has developed and integrated the UIX software to work flawlessly with their peripherals. These features are what set this keyboard apart. On top of all that you have the NKRO, media keys, and an extra G-key, adjustable back lights, on-board memory and the detachable palm rest. This long list of key features are what makes the 500k top of its class.
