COUGAR 700M Gaming Mouse and SPEED Gaming Mouse Pad Review

A Closer Look: 700M Gaming Mouse

Upon removing the 700M mouse from the packaging, I noticed immediately that the pictures on the package do not do this mouse justice. The mouse is equal parts curvy and edgy in shape and is medium in size. The build quality is superb as the mouse feels very sturdy and well-built even with the lighter aluminum frame. The finish looks great with the silver and black contrast highlighted with orange here and there. The mouse has a unique palm rest that is adjustable to fit perfectly in the palm of the hand for the best control. The USB cable is of adequate length and is also braided while the USB connector is gold-plated. There are some other high-end gaming mouse out there that do not offer these extras.

Each side of the mouse has a textured rubber grip that is large enough for even the biggest fingers. The grips are also non-intrusive and very effective. The grips are subtle as to not protrude and feel awkward. These most certainly make a difference in overall control and handling of the 700M. The left side of the mouse has three buttons, while the right has none.

The swappable palm rest is home to the COUGAR logo and is a nice touch and adds to the overall appearance for sure. This mouse alone may be just enough to intimidate your foes at the next LAN party! In between the palm rest and the front of the mouse sits the weight cartridge. When pulled to the rear, the cartridge sort of springs out. I found the springing action to be a bit lacking and I had to use some extra finger work to release the cartridge. This could also be attributed to the fact that the mouse has not quite been “broken” in yet. Once removed the cartridge can be filled with up to four optional weights depending on the user’s preference. The additional black palm rest that was included is easily switched out by simply pressing the button and sliding the palm rest off of the back of the mouse. The black palm rest is slightly smaller than the stock version and gives you some serious control at the palm point of your mouse movements. Additionally, the palm rest can be adjusted vertically to maximize your comfort level or grip.

Looking at the bottom of the 700M mouse, the first thing that I noticed was the large surface areas for each of the mouse skates. This attribute certainly helps with acceleration, precision, and control. This also means a longer life since the weight of the mouse is spread further out across all of the skates. Bravo for that design!

The laser is the revolutionary ADNS-9800 high performance sensor for accuracy cursor control with up to an 8200 dpi which translates into some serious speed. To professional gamers, this is a necessity for first-person shooters, MMOs and RTS gaming; especially if you are playing these sorts of games competitively.

Now that we have taken a closer look at the 700M, we will take a look at SPEED Gaming Mouse Pad!

A Closer Look: SPEED Gaming Mouse Pad

The SPEED Gaming Mouse Pad is available in three sizes and the version we have today is the Large. Measuring 400mm square, this is truly a large mouse pad. The top side of the pad has a fabric texture and is really smooth across. Other than the COUGAR logo and text at the bottom left, this pad is completely black on top and looks great on the desk. The bottom side is orange and has a rubber non-slip texture to help keep the pad in place, no matter what surface it sets on.
