Genius K10 Wired Gaming Keyboard Review

Software

The K10 uses the same SmartGenius software as all other Genius products.

I was a little disappointed that you don’t have much added functionality when using a gaming keyboard as the options are almost exactly the same as when using any other Genius keyboard with the only exception being the ability to add macros which may come in handy when playing games that require pressing a lot of different keys quickly or pressing the same button over and over like in fighting games.

(see the review of the SlimStar 8008 for more information of the software since both keyboards have nearly identical options).

Overall I like the software but wish you had more options when using a gaming keyboard.

Gaming and Typing Performance

I will preface this next part by saying the K10 is not a mechanical keyboard it is what Genius advertize as a “mechanical feeling” keyboard and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it pulls that claim off.

While gaming this keyboard feels great I mostly played The Witcher 3 while testing this keyboard and keys were responsive with every command with no notable delay between pressing a key and the action being replicated on-screen. Also the keys spring back up almost immediately after releasing a key making quick successive presses extremely easy to make on this keyboard (extremely handy with the amount of dodge rolling you do in TW3).

For non gaming use this keyboard works extremely well too, along with typing this entire review on the K10 and not running into any issues or hand cramps I ran a quick Word per minute test and scored 40WPM which is just slightly better than the 39 I scored using my fully mechanical keyboard.

I will say a full mechanical feels slightly better but the K10 comes extremely close to feeling like a mechanical keyboard to the point where if I didn’t have a mechanical keyboard on hand to compare it to I would be hard pressed to notice the difference.

also all the key caps on this keybaord are removable and universal so you should be able to use any aftermarket key caps with this keyboard to further customize the feel and look.

This is what teh key switches look like under the keycaps, All keys are replaceable. The keycaps use a universal connection method so you shouldnt have any trouble finding replacement keys if you ever want to change up the look.

While I couldn’t find anything specific about what the key caps are made out of they feel extremely well made and are made with thick plastic, you shouldn’t run into any problems with key caps cracking or paint wearing off anytime soon.

Overall I like this keyboard a lot and would recommend it if you’re looking for a budget gaming option.
