Thermaltake X1 RGB Gaming Keyboard Review

Keyboard performance

While gaming

I was unable to put this keyboard through my normal set of gaming test due to being out-of-town for most of the review period but I was able to do a bit of gaming on my laptop while using this keyboard.

Playing some games like the original Deus Ex and Fortnite (My laptop is capable of much else) left me appreciating the lower key actuation force of the Cherry Silver switches. The keys themselves always feel really good with each key press offering a consistent and smooth feeling as I pressed down and a quick response when I released the key. This is definitely a great keyboard if you play games that require a ton of very fast key presses and you don’t want to use the built-in macro key function.

The best way I can describe how the Cherry silver keys feel is almost exactly like the Cherry MX Red switches but with a much smaller travel distance before a key press is triggered, unlike Cherry MX Blue switches there’s no noticeable click when a key is triggered. Instead, a key press is triggered almost right when the key is bottomed out but due to the small travel distance, this isn’t far at all.

Overall I’m a huge fan of this keyboard for gaming, whether you play competitive games, button mashers or laid back story driven games this keyboard will have something to offer for any gamer out there.

While typing

When doing keyboard reviews I try to write as much of the review itself on the keyboard I’m reviewing and inspire of traveling while writing this review I was able to type out about 80% of this on the X1 Keyboard so I have a pretty good feeling of how this keyboard does with normal typing.

And similarly to its gaming performance the X1 did really well, the low actuation force helps me type quickly while the smooth MX Red feeling switches help each keystroke feel smooth and pleasant to type on.

Overall I’m impressed with how well this keyboard feels for normal typing, while I wouldn’t recommend someone buy a $120 keyboard just to type some word documents on this is a great keyboard for any students out there who write a ton of papers but also love to game in their free time. As a bonus pulling this thing out in class and showing off all of its RGB goodness will net you some cool points.

Overall Performance

Overall performance on this keyboard is quite amazing. Whether I was gaming or writing I was thoroughly impressed with how good this keyboard felt to use. The low actuation force of Cherry Silver switches was another feature I never knew I needed until I used the X1, gaming is so faster with the quick key presses offered by the X1, I’m honestly not sure if I’ll ever be able to use another key switch again now.
