ASRock B450M Pro4 Motherboard Review

Performance: Part 1

All tests were performed on the AMD Ryzen platform which contains the 2600X processor with standard cooler delivered by AMD, 16GB DDR4-4133 set to DDR4-3200 16-16-16 for the comparison purposes, EVGA GTX1080Ti FE for 3D tests, Patriot Hellfire NVMe SSD and Kingston HyperX Savage SATA SSD for storage tests and Enermax Platimax D.F. 750W Plat. 80+ PSU.

All tests were performed on the Windows 10 Pro x64 so a typical OS nowadays.

For the comparison, we’ve used DDR4-3200 16-16-16 1.35V settings as every motherboard should handle that. The B450M Pro4 can make some more. Maximum stable frequency achieved on a current BIOS release is DDR4-3466. ASRock is working on an improved BIOS so I hope to see better results in some time.

Here is also one screenshot made at DDR4-3200 14-14-14 in quite demanding HyperPi 32M.

The performance in PCMark 10 is slightly higher than that of the B450 Gaming ITX/ac motherboard. As I mentioned in my previous review, performance, in this case, depends on how long processor’s clock can stay at its maximum frequency. Even though chipset shouldn’t matter much then we see that motherboards based on the X470 chipset are performing slightly better in some tests.

The similar situation is in all Futuremark/UL benchmarks like PCMark 8.

ASRock B450 Pro4 performs great in all storage tests. In PCMark 8 storage benchmark it achieved the best result in SATA bandwidth and not much worse results using NVMe SSD.

Cinebench R15 results may vary depends on the pass. Usually, it’s not a big difference but at least on Ryzen, it can be up to 10 points or even more. This situation we can see here when the B450 Gaming ITX is 10 points better than the B450 Pro4. It doesn’t mean that one motherboard is faster than the other. It also doesn’t change the fact that all results are pretty good for this platform.

Compression and decompression tests using 7-Zip are not changing the situation much. Even though results on the B450 motherboards are good then the X470 is slightly faster.

We will continue on the next page.
