ASRock B550 Extreme4 Motherboard Review

Performance – part 1

All tests were performed on the ASRock B550 Extreme4 motherboard, Ryzen 9 3900X processor, XFX RX5600 XT Thicc Ultra III graphics card, 16GB G.Skill TridentZ Neo DDR4-3600 CL14 memory kit, and Silicon Power US70 PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD on which was installed Windows 10 Pro x64 OS with the latest updates. In tests were also used additional memory kits and storage devices. Everything else will be mentioned during the tests.

Memory performance

The motherboard has no problem handling memory up to DDR4-4733 as in the specification, and we could reach pretty stable DDR4-4800. The maximum frequency is lower than that of the B550 PG Velocita, where we could set up to DDR4-5000.

The highest memory clock isn’t any problem as the current, Ryzen 3000 series processors work the best at infinity fabric to memory ratio 1:1. In this case, optimal is DDR4-3600 at lower latency. The upcoming Ryzen processors will support at least DDR4-4200 at a 1:1 ratio, so the Extreme4 will still be more than enough.

The motherboard was also tested with Micron, Hynix, and Samsung 8GB modules, Samsung and Micron 16GB modules, Hynix, and Micron 32GB modules. There were no issues during tests, and every memory kit could run at XMP settings.

Processor performance and mixed load tests

The performance and stability of our processor are excellent. There were no problems to reach its rated frequency under full load.

There are no problems with compression and decompression tests under high load. Also, rendering benchmarks like the Cinebench series performs well and without any issues. Our results in Cinebench R20 were slightly lower than that of the PG Velocita but nothing really significant.

Our results in Cinebench and PCMark 10 benchmarks are similar to those made on X570 motherboards.

PCMark 10

PCMark results are essential as they show how all components work with each other in a mixed load environment. It can be translated into regular daily work, so what we all do and expect good results. The B550 Extreme4 provides similar results to that of high B550 and X570 motherboards, so of course, we are satisfied.
