ASRock B650 PRO RS Motherboard Review

The Box and Packaging

The box and packaging is very simple. You only get the user manual, a set of SATA cables, 3 x M.2 screws and a AM5 installation guide.

The ASRock B650 PRO RS Motherboard

The B650 PRO RS motherboard comes in a black PCB with several large silver heatsinks. One covers the chipset and Blazing M.2 slot, while another covers the VRMs/Mofets on the top of the motherboard and lastly, a large heatsink covers the VRMs/Mofets on the left side of the motherboard and this doubles as a I/O hood too.

There’s no RGB on the main area of the PCB or I/O hood. The RGB is only active on the bottom right-hand and rear side of the motherboard. It is in all intent and purposes, designed and targeted at the mainstream market, so it will lack a lot of the features found on the higher-end Taichi motherboards.

A Closer Look

To give the motherboard extra power and stability, you’ll find 1 x 8-pin and 1 x 4-pin PCIE power connectors on the top left-hand corner of the board. Make sure you these connect up.

Lacking in onboard RGB LEDs doesn’t mean the motherboard doesn’t support it. Quite the contrary, there’s 2 x 3-pin ARGB (5V) headers located near the top right side of the motherboard, and 1 x 3-pin ARGB (5V) header, as well as 1 x 4-pin RGB (12V) near the bottom right side of the board.

For connectivity, you get the Realtek Dragon 2.5G LAN but no WiFi. If you want WiFi then you’ll need to get yourself a M.2 Key-E module for WiFi. And for storage options, you get 4 x SATA3 ports, 1 x Blazing M.2 (PCIe Gen5 x4),  1 x Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4), and 1 x M.2 (PCIe Gen3x2 & SATA3) slot.

Because the B650 chipset does not support PCIE 5.0 for graphics card (only PCIE 4.0) … you get 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16 steel slot, 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16, and 1 x PCIe 4.0 x1 slot. You’ll also notice that the motherboard comes with standard DIMM slots (not reinforced ones) and supports DDR5 ram up to speed of DDR5-6200 OC+. Please take note: The DDR5 memory slot is NOT compatible with DDR4 ram.

And when it comes to USB connectivity, you get plenty. There’s 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C (Front), 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type A+C (Rear), 4 x USB 3.2 Gen1 (2 Rear, 2 Front), 9 x USB 2.0 (6 Rear, 3 Front).

Other features include the Realtek 7.1 CH HD Audio codec and Nahimic Audio, as well as 8-layer PCB and ASRock’s Polychrome RGB.

The rear I/O panel include the BIOS flashback button, DisplayPort, HDMI port, Dragon 2.5G LAN port,  6 x USB 2.0 and 2 x USB 3.2 Gen1, and 2 x 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type A+C, and for audio there’s the mic-in, line-out, and microphone jack.
