ASRock TRX40 Taichi Motherboard Review

The Ryzen Threadripper 3960X

Installation

Installation was easier than I imagined. I didn’t encounter any issues at all. However, be careful when mounting your CPU cooler. The heatsink for the VRMs/Mosfets is quite large and stands quite high. In our test, we used a Noctua NH-U12S, which seem to fit quite nicely.

We used a VIPER VPN100 M.2 SSD for our tests. Although it supports PCIE Gen3x4 rather than Gen4x4, it should still give us enough performance. The motherboard has 2 x 8-pin PCIE power for the motherboard. We only connected one of them. If you’re be running a multi-GPU setup with Nvidia SLI or AMD CrossfireX, I would recommend connecting both PCIE 8-pin power.

BIOS

The BIOS on the ASRock TRX40 Taichi was simple to use. I was able to select XMP profiles for the memory. However, I manually selected DDR4-3200 for the memory. All other options were left at default and untouched.
