ASRock X299 Taichi Motherboard Review

Installation

Installation was simple … just like any other motherboard we’ve installed. Notice we installed the Cooler Master MasterLiquid Pro 240 AIO cooler which was originally on our X99 system (LGA 2011-v3). So yes, 2011-v3 coolers do fit.

Our Core i5-7640X (KabyLake-X) slotted in nicely and we mounted the cooler with no issues at all. There’s plenty of space around the processor socket and DDR4 DIMM slots. Our Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 looks good too on the motherboard.

Note: For KabyLake-X processors (i5-7640X and i7-7740X), you’ll only get support dual channel memory.

The BIOS

The ASRock BIOS is pretty much self explanatory. There are loads of options for tweaking your BIOS, especially if you want to do some overclocking. And if you have higher speed DDR4 memory, you have the option to enable XMP profiles, which will automatically give you the best configuration and memory timings.

Usually I leave everything to default… lol!
