ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 9 Motherboard Review

Over the past year, we’ve test many Intel 300 series-based motherboards … most performed pretty well including the H370 and the B365, with the higher-end Z390 models such as the ASRock Z390 Taichi and the MSI MPG Z390I taking top marks.

Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 9 Motherboard, which includes their unique selling feature … the Realtek 2.5 GB/s LAN connectivity. It’s designed for content creators and online gamers for streaming high-quality content. It can boost network performance by up to 2.5X  when compared to the standard gigabit ethernet.

Of course as with all Z390 motherboards, it supports all of Intel’s 8th and 9th generation processors (Coffee Lake-S/Coffee Lake-R) including the newer stepping via a BIOS update. This motherboard also supports memory speeds of u[p to DDR4-4200+ (OC), Intel Optane Memory, Nvidia Quad SLI and AMD’s 3-Way CrossfireX multi-GPU configuration.

It comes with the usual special features from ASRock including SuperAlloy, 3 x Ultra M.2 slots for SSDs (with 1 full coverage M.2 heatsink), USB 3.1 Gen1 and Gen2 (both Type-A and Type-C), Creative Cinema 5 sound via Realtek’s 7.1 HD audio, dual Intel gigabit LAN, dual AC wifi, and of course the Polychrome RGB and well as the 2.5 GB/s LAN by Realtek.

The ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 9 is truly a feature-packed motherboard that’s designed for the most demanding of enthusiasts and gamers … and this is why ASRock have introduced the Phantom Gaming (PG) brand. It’s their new gaming product line aimed to provide gamers, professionals, and PC enthusiasts with top of the line gaming products. Here’s something taken from their microsite

I would like to thank ASRock for providing the review sample. This is a snippet from what ASRock has to say about themselves on their website:

ASRock Inc. is established in 2002, specialized in the field of motherboards. ASRock strives to build up its own brand. With the 3C design concept, “Creativity, Consideration, Cost-effectiveness”, the company explores the limit of motherboards manufacturing while paying attention on the eco issue at the same time, developing products with the consideration of eco-friendly concept.

ASRock has been growing fast and become world third largest motherboard brand with headquarter in Taipei, Taiwan and branches in Europe and the USA. The young and vibrant company targets from mainstream to enthusiast MB segments for different kinds of users, owning reputation around the world market with its reliability and proficiency.

We’ve already tested the Z390 Taichi last year … so I’m expecting similar performance with only the difference being, the design and looks of the motherboard along with the 2.5 Gb/s LAN.  It will be interesting to see how it will compare against other 300 series motherboard such as the B365 and H370 motherboards.

Let’s not waste any more time and check out the specifications and features of the ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 9 Motherboard on our next page.
