ASRock Z790 LiveMixer Motherboard Review

Verdict and Conclusion

You’re probably asking who would want to buy this motherboard? Apart from the looking purple heatsinks with a unique graffiti design … the ASRock Z790 LiveMixer motherboard offers no real benefit or performance improvements over ASRock’s other Z790 motherboards.

However having said that, it does include all of ASRock’s unique features such as the 14 + 1 + 1 power phase design with Smart Power Stage (SPS), Polychrome Sync, auto driver installer, Dr. MOS, 2oz copper PCB, and special eDP port. This eDP port allows users to attached ASRock’s internal 13.3-inch IPS LED monitor for modders, power user and gamers to increase their productivity. Now that’s something you don’t often see on other Z790 motherboards.

To answer the question … who would buy this motherboard? Well, according to ASRock, the Z790 LiveMixer is designed for Content Creators, Video Editors, Photo Editor, and Game Developers. So what makes it so special? Apart from its aesthtically pleasing look, the board also offers a wealth connectivity – a total of 23 USB ports and a header for a Thunderbolt AIC (add-in card). This allows users to attach many peripherals, such extra mice, keyboards, microphones, headsets, multiple cameras, fill-lights, macropads, and much more.

They’ve even have tested this motherboard with many video capture devices with different interfaces in order to provide the most stable system for content creators, including …

It also comes with a Dragon 2.5G LAN for fast data transfer, with an option M.2 Wifi add-on module supporting WiFi 6E. For storage, you get a total of 4 x SATA ports, 1 x Blazing M.2 (PCIe Gen5x4), and 4 x Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) slots, which is more than plenty for storing your large video files.

The DDR5 DIMM slots can support memory speeds of up to DDR5-7200+ OC, with a total capacity of up to 128GB. The PCIE 5.0 x16 slots support all the latest next-gen graphics card and feature surface mount technology, which gives it better strength and stability. Great!

During our tests, we used an Intel 13th Gen Core i9-13900K processor and a GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card. We managed to pull some pretty good scores in all of our benchmarks, including a Cinebench R23 scores of 33,904 (multi core) and 2,212 (single core). For PCMark 10, we got a score of 9,256, and a score of 11,414 for PassMark9.

For UL’s Procyon Photo Editing Benchmark, we got a score of 9,897 and 8,472 for the video editing suite. For 3DMark Speed Way and Port Royal, we got a score of 5,083 and 12,655 respectively. And finally, for Timespy and Firestrike, we got decent scores of 19,136 and 38,233 respectively.

The bright purple colour and graffiti design of the ASRock Z790 LiveMixer, may not be suited for everyone. It’s rather like the B760M Sonic WiFi – a novelty motherboard which we reviewed last time. Basically, it offers decent performance as you would expect from a Z790 motherboard, but with an added theme.

You can buy the ASRock Z790 LiveMixer motherboard for around USD $250 from Newegg – https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813162098, which I think is pretty amazing and affordable.
