Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (Z370) Motherboard Review

Thanks to Asus, we’ll be taking a look at their ROG Maximus X Hero (Z370) Motherboard. It features the latest Z370 chipset from Intel and supports all of their latest 8th Gen processors (Coffee Lake) using the LGA1151 socket.

The motherboard is packed with some great features including … Intel Gigabit Ethernet, LANGuard, USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A and Type-C™ connectors, dual M.2 connectors with one included ROG M.2 Heatsink, Aura Sync, SupremeFX HD audio and much more.

It also supports DDR4 memory up to DDR4-4133(O.C.), 2-way SLI or 3-way Crossfire multi-GPU configuration, as well as diagnostic LEDs, ROG UEFI BIOS, One-Click Overclocking, X.M.P., DirectKey, ClrCMOS, Power-on and reset buttons.

Looking at the specifications and features of this motherboard, we can determine that the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero is definitely designed for the extreme enthusiast or hardcore gamer, who wants the latest and the best technologies, unrivaled performance with plenty of overclocking options. This could be the Z370 motherboard that you’ve been looking for…

Please note that this motherboard and all Z370 chipset based motherboards, do not support and is currently not compatible with older 6th or 7th Gen Intel Core processors LGA1151 (Skylake/Kaby Lake).

By the way … if you missed my recent rant about Intel, you can read it again!

We’ll start by saying a big thanks to Asus ROG for providing the review sample. This is a snippet from what ROG has to say about themselves on their website:

For years since its establishment, ASUS aimed to put an ever-greater emphasis on PC gaming. This process resulted in the 2006 founding of the Republic of Gamers brand (ROG), formed for the sole purpose of delivering the most innovative hardcore hardware for truly dedicated gamers.

Since then, the efforts of the ROG team have led to a constant flow of PC gaming technology that has become legendary among enthusiasts for its performance. ROG is more than just hardware, though – we take an active part in the global gaming community, helping develop the industry by sponsoring events such as PAX and Dreamhack. Worldwide media have recognized ROG as a leader in PC gaming and overclocking performance, with many of our products winning awards and gaining very positive feedback from hardware pros.

With this great response from gamers and the industry, ROG has all the resources it needs to keep working on enabling even better experiences – technology never sleeps, nor should the action!

Take a look at the chart below which shows all the 8th Gen Intel Core processors currently available. The Z370 chipset offers a maximum of 24 x PCIE 3.0 lanes, dual channel DDR4-2666 memory support, as well as support for Intel Optane memory.

We’ll be using an Intel Core i7-8700K processor along with some DDR4-3200 ram from G.Skill, as well as a Zotac GeForce GTX 1080. I’m expecting the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero to produce some impressive results. We’ll be comparing it with another Z370 motherboard which we recently tested.

OK, let’s first take a look at the features and specification of the Intel Z370 chipset, then we’ll move on to the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (Z370) motherboard itself.

You can buy the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (Z370) motherboard for around USD $280 from Amazon – http://amzn.to/2zLNYoi or at Newegg for $280

Sounds like it eh.

Hope you have better luck than I, have been fighting ghost in the machine for a few days now…hope it clears up…I’m using the 8700k cpu and 32gb ram.

New stuff, odds are you’ll be a beta for a bit.

Upside, once everything works, you’ll have a board that probably lasts as long as my old one (14 years) and was still actually useful in the later years for gaming…
