BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 Motherboard Review

Thanks to BIOSTAR, we’ll be taking a look at their Racing Z370GT6 Motherboard. This motherboard uses the latest Intel Z370 chipset and is suitable for all 8th Gen Core processors (Coffee Lake) from Intel. Looking at the specifications and features of the BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6, it’s designed for the mainstream user who wants the latest technologies at affordable price.

The motherboard supports the DDR4 memory up to DDR4-3866 (OC), Optane memory, as well as Gigabit LAN and super LAN surge protection. Oddly, it supports 3-way AMD Crossfire Technology, but no mention of Nvidia SLI.

It also comes with interesting features including, VIVID LED DJ, dual BIOS, 1 x LN2 Switch, 2 x 5050 LED Headers, M.2 Cooling (heat spreader), diagnostic LEDs, GT Touch panel for onboard power-on, reset and ECO mode.

All-in-all, the BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 does looks pretty packed with features. But all these extras don’t mean squat … if the motherboard can not perform. So let’s see how well the BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 can compete against other Z370 motherboards we’ve already tested.

Please note that this motherboard and all Z370 chipset based motherboards, do not support and is currently not compatible with older 6th or 7th Gen Intel Core processors LGA1151 (Skylake/Kaby Lake).

By the way … if you missed my recent rant about Intel, you can read it again!

Here’s a little blurb about BIOSTAR taken from their website …

In 1980,the IT industry was growing at a phenomenal rate. With wide experience in buying and selling electronic parts as well as researching on future demands for mainboards and add-on cards , the founder of BIOSTAR GROUP,established BIOSTAR MICROTECH INTERNATIONAL CORP in 1986.

In the early years, BIOSTAR concentrated on the manufacture of mainboards built for XT form factor. To maintain steady business growth, BIOSTAR managed to keep a large portion of its capital and manpower invested on the design and development of new products, which at the same time has enabled it to stay competitive in the rapid evolution of the computer industry.

BIOSTAR has enriched its competence in the design and manufacture of products such as add-on cards, multi-media and system products to develop the market and meet the demands of customers for more integrated solutions. In order to expand its capacity to meet customer demand globally, BIOSTAR was the first to establish a manufacturing facility in China in 1990. In 1998, its sales revenues exceeded US$130 million and it ranked 227th among the top 1000 enterprises in Taiwan. Furthermore,BIOSTAR obtained an ISO 9001 certification in 1999 and became a publicly listed company in the same year. BIOSTAR’s future has limitless possibilities.

Take a look at the chart below which shows all the 8th Gen Intel Core processors currently available. The Z370 chipset offers a maximum of 24 x PCIE 3.0 lanes, dual channel DDR4-2666 memory support, as well as support for Intel Optane memory.

We’ve already reviewed the very capable ASRock Z370 Killer SLI and the superb Asus ROG Maximus X Hero. Both motherboards performed beautifully and offered very good overclocking potential, with the ROG Maximus X Hero being the better of the two. So where does the BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 fit? And how well will it compete again the Z370 motherboards from ASRock and Asus? Let’s find out.

OK, let’s continue and take a look first at the features and specification of the Intel Z370 chipset, then we’ll move on to the BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 motherboard itself.

You can buy the BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 motherboard from various e-tailers for around USD $150-200.
