Dell Latitude 10 Tablet Review

Build Quality and Design

The overall build quality of the Latitude 10 is average, and nothing to shout about. It does however feel sturdy in the hand, but it is heavy afterall. I can’t see myself hold the tablet using one hand more than 2-3 minutes … it’ll be like going to the gym and working your arms out.

The bezel (or border) around the Latitude 10 is much thicker than other tablets I’ve worked with in the past, making it look a little ugly for my liking. If you squint your eyes and hold the tablet in front of you … it just looks like a photo frame, and not a tablet.

And oh, what the hell was Dell thinking when they made the Latitude 10 with a removeable/replaceable battery pack? What a stupid idea! It’s so 1990’s and because of this … it makes the tablet thicker in size and a heavier too!

To make up for all the bad asethics, the only thing I think the Latitude 10 has to offer is the connectivity and security. This allows it to be business ready for large corporations that are contracted out to Dell. I doubt it will be tough to ask a user to choose between a Dell Latitude 10 or an iPad. I know which one I’ll go for.

User Experience

With a nippy Atom process running at 1.8Ghz, Windows 8 Pro boot time was around 8-10 seconds (from cold), which is similar to the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2. You go through the same process after boot up to register the device using your MSN/Live/Hotmail login or create a new account.

After the registration process, you’re greeted with the infamous Windows 8 desktop with large square and rectangle /windows. Each of these Windows offer a different function (email, photos, music etc) and thus colored differently for easier identification.

Built-in email is via Outlook.com, which you get that during your registration process. There’s also a photo viewer, media player for music and videos. And let’s not forget Skype, which is built-in as part of Windows 8.

Want more? Well, like the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2, you can the Latitude 10 in desktop mode, which in turn allows you to run Microsoft Office 2010 on the tablet.
