Montech Century Mini 750W Gold PSU Review

Closer Look and Performance

After opening the Century Mini PSU, we can see how tight everything is installed. I don’t think there are problems with the temperature because of the design as the manufacturer wasn’t forced to use many heatsinks and the fan during work keeps a low speed. I’m not sure who is the manufacturer of this design but it looks different than anything from Corsair, FSP, or Enermax that I remember.

All the visible capacitors are rated at 100°C or more. All main capacitors are Japanese, as we can read in the main features. The main capacitor is Rubycon rated at 420V, 470uF, and 105°C.

The soldering and overall build quality look pretty good. It’s hard to see the soldering in the photos, and installed daughter PCB boards with DC to DC converters are also covering a lot. It’s better visible on the back of the daughter board.

The Century Mini 750W uses a fluid dynamic bearing fan. It’s made by Hong Hua and has 92mm. Exactly the same fan we can find in some other brands known for top-quality PSUs, like EVGA or Seasonic.

Performance

Tests were performed on the Intel Alder Lake-S platform, which contains the i5 12600K CPU, Colorful Z690M Gaming Frozen V20 motherboard, overclocked ASRock RX6800XT Phantom Gaming graphics card, and additional components to bump the wattage some more. The peak wattage is around 680W.

All results were performed on the open space rig.

There were no stability issues during all tests. The Century Mini 750W is one more SFX PSU that offers us high efficiency and easily meets 80 PLUS Gold certification. The PSU could handle our test rig without issues. The highest value at +12V is also pretty respectable. I feel like SFX Gold 80+ or higher rated PSUs are higher quality than most popular ATX units.

The PSU was quiet and wasn’t significantly audible during all the tests. The noise was hard to separate from the ambient, so all should be satisfied. Some other SFX PSUs tested in our redaction were clearly audible at 40%+ load while the Century Mini was nearly silent in mixed load tests which is about what we can expect while gaming.

Gamers will be also happy to see that the Century Mini supports graphics cards with one three 8-pin connectors or two 8-pin connectors. It should be enough for a single top-graphics card setup or two lower series. Since the PSU is high efficiency then shouldn’t have problems with that. We have to remember that graphics cards have recommended values based on typical, low-efficiency PSUs.
