Sennheiser MOMENTUM On-Ear Wireless Headphones Review

Sound Quality

Momentum On-Ear Wireless

I had various experiences when I used the Momentum On-Ear Wireless with different music sources and methods of connection. Using NFC with my Android smartphone I had near instant pairing, but a lot of noise in the music. Using an iPhone, the maximum volume was very low, whilst streaming from a laptop I had the best results in terms of sound quality.

Sennheiser’s Noisegard noise cancellation on the Momentum On-Ear Wireless is a little let down. With my air-conditioning unit on, with no music streaming, I can still make out the low hums of the background noise. Whilst on a busy commute to work, chit chat from people nearby can still be heard as an undertone to the music I was listening to.

But thats the slight negatives out of the way. When the Momentum On-Ear Wireless works, it works fabulously. This little beauty carries the same characteristics of the Sennheiser Momentum range, giving you a deep yet not overpowering bass and sub-bass, and a crisp clear treble. Overall, sound from the Momentum On-Ear Wireless is very controlled. The robust beefy sounds are necessary to help overcome the lacking noise cancellation, letting you focus more on your music.

Once again like the Momentum 2.0 Over-Ear and In-Ears, the mid range is slightly recessed, but the Momentum On-Ear Wireless actually does a better job in this department over its 2 brothers. Vocals this time around are definitely more distinct and nearer to the front, with orchestral instruments having an accurate and smooth texture. From other reviews, burning the Momentum On-Ear Wireless in for more than 150 hours of playback will push the mid range out a lot more. Using Sennheiser’s CapTune app, and playing around with the equalizer settings, I got a more balanced sound after I increased the mid range.

With the microphones several inches away from your mouth being situated on the underside of the ear cups, I had my reservations on how well they would cope during handsfree telephone calls. Actually testing proved me wrong here, as the person on the other end of the calls received a clear and crisp voice, with a lot of background noise being blocked out. On a lot of handsfree devices, the person on the other end normally get a harsh, raspy pick up of the voice, and not with the Momentum On-Ear Wireless, where my voice was picked up with much more natural tones.
