ADATA Legend 840 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD Review

Not all DIY PC components needs to be designed for “gaming”  in order to get good performance. ADATA have two lines of products. You have XPG, which is designed for gaming enthusiasts, and comes with features such as RGB illumination and large heatsinks. While ADATA’s consumer brand focus on everyday storage and memory products.

Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the ADATA Legend 840 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD designed for content creators and works with the latest Intel and AMD platforms, including desktop PCs and laptops. It’s powered by Innogrit’s IG5220 SSD Controller, and supports NVMe v1.4 and PCI-E 4.0 Gen4x4 standards for super fast data transfer, offering a read speeds of up to 5000Mb/sec, and a write speed of up to 4500Mb/sec. Our review sample has a total capacity of 1TB of 3D NAND flash memory. The SSD also feature a separate ultra-thin heatspreader, making ideal for laptops plus it helps with reducing the overall temperature during full load.

We’ve aleady seen how Innogrit’s higher-end IG5236 SSD controller can do, in terms of performance during our review of the Patriot Viper VP4300 M.2 PCIE Gen4 x4 2TB SSD, with read speeds of over 7,400 MB/s. Let’s see what how their IG5220 will hold up. For the more information about Innogrit’s SSD controller go here.

What I like about ADATA products, especially with their SSD series, is that they offer a massive 5 year warranty. And one interesting fact a about the ADATA Legend 840, is that it’s also compatible for the Sony Playstation 5.

Confused and NAND flash memory? Well, there are several types of NAND flash memory used in most of today’s SSDs. The two most popular are SLC and MLC, and now TLC. Here’s a little background taken from HowToGeek.

Thanks for the excellent review! I’m excited to say I just picked up two of these 1TB Legend 840s on sale for $60 each! They’re going to replace an older gen 3 nvme ssd in one system and a SATA SSD in another.
