ADATA XPG GAMMIX S50 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD Review

Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the ADATA XPG GAMMIX S50 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD. It’s powered by Phison’s latest E16 SSD Controller, and supports the PCI-E 4.0 Gen4x4 standard for super fast data transfer, offering a read speeds of up to 5000Mb/sec, and a write speed of up to 4400Mb/sec. Our review sample has a total capacity of 1TB of 3D NAND flash memory, and comes with SLC caching and DRAM cache buffer, as well as supporting NVMe v1.3. The SSD also feature a nice and sleek looking gun-metal grey heatspreader, which will help reduce temperatures during full load.

In the past, I’ve always encouraged users to get themselves a M.2 SSD as a boot drive, with a minimum capacity of 256GB. But now with the prices of NAND memory chips falling recently, we’re seeing a lot of manufacturers producing 512GB, 1TB and 2TB SSDs in M.2 form factor. This is great news for us consumers. We now have the option to run higher capacity M.2 SSDs … not just as boot drive, but as our main C: drive.

And if you own X570 motherboard along with a 3rd Gen Ryzen processor (Matisse core), you’ll be able to take full advantage of the PCIE 4.0 Gen4x4 interface, which the ADATA XPG GAMMIX S50 fully supports.

Confused and NAND flash memory? Well, there are several types of NAND flash memory used in most of today’s SSDs. The two most popular are SLC and MLC, and now TLC. Here’s a little background taken from HowToGeek.
