Crucial BX500 480GB SATAIII SSD Review

Performance – Momentum Cache

Crucial is offering one more feature which is not available in all competitive drives – Momentum Cache. It’s a simple way to use RAM memory to boost storage performance by caching files which are in use.

What does it offer? Much higher performance for free so I guess it already sounds interesting.

Below you can see a window in the Storage Executive where we can enable Momentum Cache. One quick restart and all works.

Results in ATTO Disk Benchmark are a bit weird but we can still see a significant performance gain, up to 4GB/s.

In CrystalDiskMark it’s even more visible with results up to 6.4GB/s! It’s more than the best NVMe SSD can do. On the other hand, we can see that with larger test files, performance is going down. In the end, it’s still much more than the drive offers without Momentum Cache.

PCMark 8 score is also better but at least in this benchmark, we can see it mostly in each benchmark and bandwidth while the total score is not much higher.

The similar improvement we can see in PCMark 10 where the result is higher.
