Crucial BX500 960GB SATA SSD Review

Performance – Momentum Cache

Crucial drives offer the Momentum Cache so a simple way to use RAM memory to boost storage performance by caching files which are in use. Some competitive brands are using similar caching technology but not all of them.

What does it offer? Much higher performance for free so I guess it already sounds interesting.

The Momentum Cache is available in the Storage Executive software which works with all Crucial SSD. Simply click enable and after the operating system restart, all should work.

The same as in the previous review, also here we can see that results highly depend on the test files.

CrystalDiskMark is showing that situation even better. Additional caching is helping especially in smaller files and when we have to work on multiple tasks at once. Each test on larger files is showing us worse performance but even the lowest result is still much better than the one without additional caching enabled.

PCMark 8 score is also better but at least in this benchmark, we can see it mostly in each benchmark and bandwidth while the total score is not much higher.

In the Performance Test 9, we can see results up to 6.4GB/s! It’s amazing when we can do that on an inexpensive drive like BX500.
