Crucial P5 Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIE Gen4 SSD Review

Performance

The performance has been tested on the AMD Ryzen platform that contains the Ryzen 9 5900X, 12-core processor, ASUS Strix B550-XE Gaming motherboard, 32GB Ballistix DDR4-3600 memory kit, and Crucial P5 500GB M.2 SSD with installed Win11 Pro x64. All tests were performed on the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB SSD.

Let’s begin as usual with the ATTO Disk Benchmark.

Results in ATTO benchmarks look a bit weird. We could still see up to 6380MB/s read and 4670MB/s write bandwidth. Lower than expected, but this benchmark used us to see that also on other SSD.

In CrystalDiskMark, our results are higher than expected, with the maximum read bandwidth of 6826MB/s and the maximum write of 5056MB/s. This is significantly more than specified. I only add that the specification assumes the maximum read at 6600MB/s and the maximum write at 5000MB/s.

The bandwidth in random operations is high, which gives us hopes for high performance during mixed workloads or more professional tasks, including work on larger databases. The low queue random operations are also critical in games and affect loading time. This is where the P5 Plus performs the best.

Below are some results from PCMark 10. The P5 Plus gives us the best results in this benchmark. Not many SSD on the market can come close to these results. Even most PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD stay behind.

Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a rather old benchmark but is still popular. This benchmark usually shows lower results than the ATTO or the CrystalDiskMark. It doesn’t change the fact that the results are pretty high.

In the end, AIDA64 Disk Benchmark results in random read and write operations.

In both cases, so read and write, we can count on about 2200MB/s average bandwidth. It’s a lot considering that we are using a single SSD. In comparison, a SATA SSD usually reaches less than 20% of this result. As long as it won’t change much in simple operations, it will certainly affect more demanding applications, databases, and new games, which more often take over 50GB of storage and constantly load large data.

The P5 Plus SSD is clearly one of the top options on the current SSD market and for sure meets the needs of any kind of consumer.
