Since the HyperX SAVAGE EXO is an SSD then we can check its S.M.A.R.T. log using popular diagnostic programs like the CrystalDiskInfo. The condition of our drive is perfect so we can start tests.

Worth to mention is a low operating temperature. In idle, the drive has under 30°C. During typical work, the temperature of the drive is still lower than that of many competitors and shouldn’t exceed 45°C.

Package and its Contents

The package is kept in a usual for HyperX products white and red color scheme. It’s a small, well-described box that perfectly fits into the retail stores. On the package, there are all main features like high speed, supported platforms and some more.

The drive comes with two high-quality USB cables. One is a USB type-A to type- C, and the other one is a C-type cable. The SAVAGE EXO SSD is on the market for some time but it’s fully compatible with the latest standards and multiple gaming platforms.

We could wonder why the maximum speed is limited to the 500MB/s in a drive designed for enthusiasts and gamers which are the most demanding users. The answer is simple, most devices are not supporting a higher speed than that offered by USB 3.1 Gen2 so we wouldn’t see any difference in speed but could be problems with compatibility. Once gaming consoles will be upgraded with new USB controllers then drives will be also faster. Right now the SAVAGE EXO seems like the fastest option overall.

The SAVAGE EXO looks quite simple but stylish. The enclosure works also as a heatsink so transfers some heat from the inside. Everything looks quite durable and shouldn’t cause problems for a long time. The drive is covered by a 3-year warranty what for external drives is quite long. HyperX is sure that the SAVAGE EXO is a solid product.

Above are additional photos of the drive. I’m sure that users will like this design as it fits into pretty much every environment, also business.

Since we know how the SAVAGE EXO looks like then we can analyze the performance.
