Specifications and Features

Kingston UV400 SSD is based on TLC NAND and Marvell 88SS1074 controller. TLC NAND for sure lowered price and the same we can see in competitive products. At the same time Marvell controllers are known to be fast and reliable so it’s good combination for good quality in low price.

Kingston is offering three year warranty with free technical support. It’s nothing special on current market but TLC based SSD have rarely longer warranty so we can consider it as advantage.

Now let’s take a look what we can find in the package of the desktop kit which we are reviewing.

In the box is everything you need to move your current operating system to new SSD. There is USB enclosure, Acronis HD license and mounting elements for desktop computers. Of course we can install UV400 also in laptops.

One of the pictures below is showing short installation guide printed on the box. It shows how easy is to make it.

Drive itself looks simple but at the same time solid. Enclosure is made of metal and is silver with black Kingston logo. It looks pretty good. On the back is only small label with serial and product numbers, couple of safety certificates and drive’s capacity.

The UV400 is connected via SATA3 port as most SSD. It’s standard SATA connector which works with all modern desktop and laptop computers.

USB enclosure is working in 2.0 standard what means we can’t count on much more than about 35MB/s bandwidth. It’s still enough to move data but will take some more time. USB 3.0 version would be better option but it would also raise price of the kit.

Drive installation in the USB enclosure is really simple. Don’t even have to use any tools.
