Patriot Blaze 240GB 2.5″ SATA SSD review

Performance

Performance has been measured using popular storage benchmarks. Test platform was based on the latest Intel i7 5820K processor and ASUS Rampage V Extreme motherboard. For all tests have been used SATAIII ports connected to Intel storage controller.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

Patriot Blaze 240GB ATTO

Results in ATTO are about as high as these declared by Patriot. Blaze SSD could reach 555MB/s sequential read and 535MB/s sequential write bandwidth. It’s really good result considering the Blaze isn’t the highest Patriot SSD series.

Now let’s move to tests which are also including random transfers as it’s affecting our daily work some more.

CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 x64

Patriot Blaze 240GB CDM

CrystalDiskMark is one of the most popular storage benchmarks so we can easily compare our results with many other users.

Patriot Blaze is achieving good results in most of the tests except last one which is based on many small operations made at the same time. However this test is more important for servers and database users. At home we will barely see any difference.

In general, results are at respectable level for any gaming PC. Patriot Blaze is a cheaper SSD series so gamers with lower budget should be satisfied.

Anvil’s Storage Utilities

Patriot Blaze 240GB ANVIL

Anvil’s benchmarks are including tests similar to CrystalDiskMark but it’s always good to check if results are repetable in other tests. As we see above, Patriot Blaze 240GB achieved almost the same results in random transfers and slightly worse in sequential. There is nothing really exceptional in these results but they’re also not bad.

AS SSD Benchmark

Patriot Blaze 240GB ASSSD

Test results in AS SSD are usually worse than we can see in CrystalDiskMark so I was quite surprised to see higher bandwidth in random 4K tests. 34MB/s random 4K read is already respectable result. Not many SSD can reach it. Deeper queue tests and write bandwidth isn’t as good but as I already mentioned, these results are less important in daily work.

Futuremark PCMark8

Patriot Blaze 240GB PCM8

PCMark8 has really good storage test which is checking drive’s performance in mixed environment. Tests base on a popular applications so are showing how our SSD should act during everyday usage.

PCMark8 results were also a little surprise as scores are about as good as those achieved on the best SSD reviewed in our redaction. It simply proves what I mentioned earlier. Synthetic tests are showing us read and write bandwidth in various scenarios but most of these tests are good mainly for servers. What counts most in home PCs is read bandwidth in sequential and random operations and it was pretty good in nearly all our tests.
