Specifications:

One quick look at the CrystalDiskInfo to check S.M.A.R.T. and the overall condition of our drive. Everything is perfect. The drive is already after a couple of tests that you can see in the program’s window.

The idle temperature of the BOLT B80 Pro is about 30°C. Under load, it goes above 40°C, but it’s hard to say it runs hot.

Package and its Contents

The BOLT B80 arrived in a small box which looks like those from more expensive smartphones. It looks simple but high quality. On the package, we can see a general description, specifications, and additional info telling us that the drive is shockproof and waterproof. Of course, there are limits, but if we drop the drive into the water for a short period, then it should be fine. The same dropping it on the ground multiple times from let’s say 1-2m height shouldn’t cause problems. Better not try how much the drive can stand, but it’s good to know that our data is safe during typical conditions.

The drive comes with a high-quality USB-C to USB-A cable. The cable is braided and looks durable. It shouldn’t break during more extended usage.

The same maximum bandwidth of the BOLT B80 is 500MB/s read and 450MB/s write. Considering we are using a USB port, then it’s high bandwidth. Most computers won’t be able to run as fast. On the other hand, it’s more than enough for gaming consoles and other devices. I have actually seen some comments of users who purchased the B80 for their XBOX One consoles and are satisfied with its speed.

Inside the aluminum enclosure, we will find an mSATA SSD. I won’t hide that I wasn’t expecting that, but it sounds about right as mSATA is small and quite fast. On the next page, we will check how it performs and now some more words about the drive’s design.

The BOLD B80 looks unique. There are not many so small and … round, external SSD. We carry it with us anywhere as it fits into a pocket. The only thing I would add is a short USB cable that could be attached to the drive. Something like many external HDD have. It wouldn’t make a user carry a USB cable separately and would make it even handier.

On the upper side of the drive, there is a small LED which is showing us drive’s activity. I won’t hide that at first, I haven’t noticed that and I actually thought there is a little defect. Once I plugged the USB cable into the PC, then all was clear.

Let’s move to the next page and some performance tests.
