Asus ROG Strix Radeon RX Vega 64 Graphics Card Review

The Box and Packaging

The box and packaging is nicely presented. It comes with the usual instruction manual, drivers disc and a PCIE power extension cable, along with an interesting ROG velcro strap.

Here’s the graphics card itself. It comes with 3 fans with a patented wing-blade design giving you 105% extra air pressure for superior cooling.

The backplate as well as the large heatsink provides upto 40% more surface area for heat dissipation and cooling than AMD’s own reference design.

A Closer Look

The card comes with 3 fans with a patented wing-blade design, giving you 105% extra air pressure for superior cooling. What’s more, these fans are IP5X-Certified Dust Resistance, which helps to improve reliability and give a longer lifespan.

You’ll also find pin headers for the Asus Fanconnect II underneath the fan shroud. For connectivity, you get 1 x DVI, 2 x DisplayPort and 2 x HDMI connectors.

Installation

The card is quiet large and uses 2.5-slot space, so that’s something you have to bear in mind. As far as installation goes, there wasn’t any real issues on our test rig.

Make sure you plug both 8-pin PCIE power cables into the graphics card.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the graphics card is quite high (or tall). This could be an issue if you have smaller chassis.

“You can buy the Asus ROG Strix Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics card for around USD $550-580 from various e-tailers.” From where?

If you want to overclock the RX Vega… you definitely need a better cooler.

terrible review. Not even an attempt at overclocking cos this card would crash. you can only get good performance from Vega if you water cool it as it’s too hot for ANY air cooler to handle.
My vega56 with a waterblock smashes all the scores on this review by huge margins.

Yeah the card does run HOT … our reviews are published using default setting only.

Yes, the RX Vega 64 does running pretty HOT, that’s why we didn’t overclock it. We don’t overclock VGA cards in our reviews. All our reviews are published at default settings.

There’s also something wrong with that Firestrike graphics score of 26542.
you’d have to be running clock speeds well over 1700 to get that score.

Yeah no OC, because it’s not great at overclocking.
