HIS R7 240 iCooler Boost Clock 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card Review

Closer Look

As expected HIS R7 240 1GB iCooler graphics card came to our redation in a box which is hidding another box inside.

On the front side of the package we see general info about graphics card like GPU and memory capacity but also additional HIS features like iCooler or iTURBO that should improve performance and keep lower temperature than the reference design. Besides already mentioned general info, on the front of the box there is also … a sword. It’s not really strange as most graphics cards manufacturers are using pictures related to the games. After all most desktop graphics cards are dedicated for gamers.R7 240 pht2

On the back of the box there is more detailed specification and features and additional information about HIS.

As I already mentioned, graphics card is protected by two boxes. Inside second box we can find the card, short manual, reference card and drivers CD. There are no cables as they are not really needed to install and run this product.

There are three ports – HDMI, DVI and D-Sub, but as we could see in the specification table, this card is supporting two displays.

Below is closer look at the cooler that I already mentioned earlier. Looks pretty standard and I think it could be even smaller so graphics card could be single slot size. It’s slightly bigger so we have to dedicate two slots to use this card.

R7 240 has really small graphics core. It also doesn’t use much power so there is not any additional power connector.

HIS decided to use Elpida memory. It seems this brand is really popular lately as many graphics cards, cheaper and more expensive are equipped with these memory chips. However overclockers try to look for a different brands like Hynix or Samsung because of higher overclocking potential. Of course we will check how good is overclocking this memory in overclocking section of this review.
