HIS R7 240 iCooler Boost Clock 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card Review

Overclocking

I already mentioned earlier that R7 240 has low graphics core clock of 780 MHz. 780 MHz is actually a boost mode as base 3D clock is 730 MHz. Not really impressive but I will try to improve it.

For overclocking I will use HIS iTURBO software. Simple tool but has nearly everything you need.

As we see below core clock is 780 MHz, memory clock is 1150 and we have also Power Limit slider. Graphics core temperature is 24°C.

I was able to achieve pretty stable 1225 MHz core and 1450 MHz memory clocks setting power limit to the maximum. It’s impressive that I didn’t even have to adjust voltage ( which isn’t even available ) to reach so high core clock what was required for all similar AMD graphics cards tested earlier. Memory overclocking of 300 MHz also looks good.

Overall overclocking improved 3DMark 11 frames per second from about 2.5 to nearly 4. Nice boost while card keeps stability and silent work. Temperature wasn’t much higher since voltage remained without changes.
