HIS Radeon HD 7850 (2Gb GDDR5) Review

The Box and Packaging

Normally, I am not a fan of pictures on the box. But in the case of HIS products I really like the swords on the front. They are cool, yet do not over-do things. Moving on the box comes covered with information about all the different features of the video card. Opening the box up, once again HIS greets us to a nice plain black box with the HIS logo on it. Inside of that you get the video card packaged very nicely, along with all of the accessories. The one I particularly like is the HIS sticker, I have to say I am a big fan of case stickers (you will see on my full rig pictures why I like them)

The card itself and the HIS cooler

Compared to the 7750, this card is large. But compared to the 7970 it is pretty small. Overall it is a decent sized card and unless your case is tiny you should not have any issues with the card fitting. It does take up two slots so keep that in mind. There is also the requirement of one PCI-E power plug which is at the end of the card so that does add an inch or so to the overall length.

If you have ever seen a stock Intel heatsink, the cooler on the 7850 looks just like it. Under the shroud you will find that there are no heatsinks for the memory, or the VRM’s. This is quite disapointing for a card this powerful even if it is a non-reference design.
