Sapphire HD7870 GHz Edition OC (2GB GDDR5) Review

Closer Look and Cooling

As I already mentioned on the last page, card is equiped with two 92mm fans which are automatically temperature controlled, and can be controlled in the Trixx software as well.

Fan control window let you set Automatic, Fixed or Custom profiles. I didn’t need to change these settings from automatic profile during all tests and the maximum temperature was near 60°C even after changing GPU voltage to 1.30V.

Heatsink is aluminum with copper base. As you see on the photo above the base isn’t really polished but it’s not preventing heat transfer. Could be better but since it’s working fine it’s not big issue.

Memory heatspreader is one more thing worth to mention. Seems standard option but not all cards with non-reference cooling have it. You may find it as big advantage when you decide to change cooling to for example some water cooling kit.

card11One more photo of this element. As you see on below photo there are thermal pads on all parts that have to be cooled.

At the end of this review part one more photo of the card without cooling.
