Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at ZOTAC’s enthusiast-grade gaming graphics card … the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2080 AMP Extreme Core (8GB GDDR6). This is one of Zotac’s many enthusiast-grade gaming graphics cards on the market … designed and aimed at the hardcore gaming enthusiast.
This graphics card is powered by Nvidia’s much talked about GPU – the Geforce RTX 20-series featuring Turing architecture and offers ray-tracing capabilities, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading.
The factory overclocked GPU has a boost speed of 1860 MHz (default boost speed is 1710 MHz), and comes with 2944 CUDA cores that delivers performance of 8 Giga Rays/s. It also comes with 8GB of GDDR6 ram on a 256-bit bus, with a memory clock speed of 14 Gbps producing a total memory bandwidth of up to 448 Gb/s.
The card also comes with all of Zotac’s usual enthusiast features such as ICE STORM 2.0 cooling, Power Boost, SPECTRA 2.0 Lighting System, OC Scanner, and FireStorm Utility for overclocking.
What is RTX all about?
Well, Nvidia have included Ray-Tracing capabilities in their new Turing GPU, giving you lifelike lighting, reflections, and shadows, offering a level of realism far beyond what’s possible using traditional rendering techniques.
Ray-Tracing is nothing new, in fact it’s been around a lot longer than you can imagine. The very first real-time ray-tracing was presented by Arthur Appel in 1968. It became more widely known during the 1980’s but it required huge processing power that only a few mainframe computers and a handful of workstations could offer.
Now almost forty years later, Nvidia is bringing real-time Ray-Tracing to the masses with their Turing GPUs, and you’ll find them on their GeForce RTX series of graphic cards.
Here’s a quick comparison of the GeForce RTX 20 series from Nvidia (default clock speeds)…

We already reviewed Zotac’s flagship graphic card, the RTX 2080 Ti AMP Extreme featuring 11 GB of GDDR6 ram. It’s one of the fastest graphics card available on the market (bar the Titan RTX), but you do pay a hefty price for it.
And this is where the RTX 2080 comes in. It’s the bare minimum if you want SLI multi-GPU configuration, and the price is kinda within reach for a lot of enthusiast gamers. You can pick up a standard RTX 2080 for under USD $700, and for that you get stunning performance with ray-tracing capabilities. Overclocked versions cost more …
I’m expecting the the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2080 AMP Extreme Core to produce excellent scores in all of our benchmarks. It should fall exactly between the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 Ti. But with an overclocked GPU of 1860 MHz, it might surprise us with its overall performance.
Let’s not waste any time and check out the features and specifications on our next page…
