Closer Look

Lexar is using similar package type for all their flash cards from Professional line of products. This time also XQD USB reader is in the same small box. You can see both products below and also back side of the package in the gallery.

Package is small and light with well described product which is inside. At the same time it protects products well for the time of transport. Simply good package.

Inside we won’t find much but we are not expecting anything unusual. XQD card has additional license for Image Rescue software which is really handy in case if we need to recover any data from our card. The reader has nothing additional but it doesn’t need anything more to work as declared.

Below you can see how package looks like and also couple of additional photos.

XQD 2.0 64GB card is quite small what we can see comparing size to the USB reader. It’s about the size of SD card but a bit thicker. Lexar is providing these cards in capacity up to 128GB.

XQD is a new standard which was designed to replace Compact Flash. Compact Flash is already old and has its limitations so it’s clear it will disappear from the market in next years.

Lexar is one of the first manufacturers who decided to move to XQD standard. There are still not many cameras which are supporting it but well known brands like Nikon are constantly releasing new products. This standard is clearly designed to work with large photo and video content so is dedicated rather to professional users.

Comparing to older standards, XQD is using PCI Express bus to transfer data. XQD 2.0 standard is designed to work up to 8Gbit/s so at least in theory we can’t find faster flash cards on the retail market.

Below you can see how XQD connector looks like. There are also additional photos of the card itself.
