The Box and Packaging

Inside the boox, you’ll find a user guide, USB-C cable (with USB-A adapter) , 4 x laptop magnets, and the Duex Plus monitor itself.

The Monitor Itself

The monitor screen type is LCD, with a size of 13.3-inches. It offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60Hz with a brightness of 300 nits. The casing is made from ABS plastic which gives it its lightness, and weighs in at around 1.3 lbs.

There are 2 x USB-C ports on the side of the monitor, and you’ll also find monitor controls on the back near those USB-C ports. You can adjust brightness, contrast etc.

The Monitor in Action

The Duex Plus monitor was surpringly easy to setup and use. We had to use the magnet locations template to align the magnets to the laptop lid.

Once the magnets are attached (one side of the magnet contain adhesive), the Duex Plus monitor can be attached. Next, use the included USB-C cable to connect the monitor to your laptop.

You can attach the monitor to the left or right side of your laptop. You could even detach the monitor from your laptop and use it as a standalone portable monitor in portrait mode. Fantastic!

Windows 11 Display Settings

During normal Windows 11 operation, you can see the maximum resolution offered is 192×1080 which is full HD resolution. No issues here. For refresh rate, I went in to “Advance Display” settings and as you can see, it shows 60Hz as advertised.

Verdict and Conclusion

In 2022, I bought an portable 13-inch 4K touch-screen monitor for around USD $400. It was a good investment at the time, as I needed it during my travels. However after a while, I found it to be a little cumbersome to use, as it’s only does one orientation at any given time, plus I had to carry it separately.

With the Mobile Pixels Duex Plus however, you can attach it together with any laptop, plus you can seamlessly switch between the left-side or the right-side. And what’s more, you could even detach it from your laptop, and use it as a standalone portable monitor in portrait mode. Fantastic!

Although the resolution is only 1920 x 1080 with a refresh rate at 60Hz, it’s more than enough for most office use. It’s NOT really designed for gaming. But it will work fine if you want to use it with a Nintendo Switch A brightness of 300 nits is nice, and should be good enough for working outdoors.

You have 3 modes of display which makes the Duex Plus super versatile … Landscape (default use), Presentation (flip the screen 180 degrees) or Portrait mode (standalone – not attached to laptop lid).
