Package, Contents and Functionality
Our Smart Plug has arrived in a retail package. You can notice that on the box is a plug for central Europe. You can of course purchase version for your localization and functionality won’t change.
On the package is general description of the product. Everything looks pretty nice while package itself looks like boxes in which are smart phones. Simply pretty good effect for even a device like Smart Plug. I like to see how TP-Link improves quality over years.
Below is photo of the box contents. There is not much but everything we need to install the Smart Plug. Quick Start Guide is showing how to install everything in couple of steps. It’s easier than it seems.
To install and configure Smart Plug you will need device with Android 4.1 or iOS 8 or higher version. These devices are so popular that it shouldn’t be an issue.
To make everything work you have to install Kasa software which is available through TP-Link website. Information about it is also in the manual and you can simply scan HR code to enter the website and download software.
Maybe couple of photos of the Smart Plug HS110 and we will move to the Kasa application.
After entering Kasa application you will have to connect to Wi-Fi network. We’ve used TP-Link Archer C3200 router reviewed earlier this month which works perfect but we have to remember to use 2.4GHz connection as Smart Plug isn’t working at 5GHz.
Kasa application has been installed on Xiaomi RedMi 3S which is Android device.
When we log into Kasa then we will see simple but clear menu and couple of programming functions like option to set power schedule. We can also check wattage and power usage of connected devices.
For tests I used ASUS GL552VW laptop which as we see below is using 38.9W during light work and maximum of 116W during full load. It’s a great function which is letting to check how power hungry are our devices.
Based on the data we can count expected electricity costs.
Smart Plug can be also controlled by voice using Amazon Echo, however we don’t have this device to check how it works.
We had a chance to check schedule and remote control of the devices connected to the Smart Plug and all is working perfectly fine. After some time you forget you are using it while Smart Plug never forgets to turn on or off your device on time.
