Conclusion
Toshiba 1TB SSHD is a good drive but I think that expectations regarding performance from this kind of drives are higher than manufacturers can offer right now.
Even though Toshiba SSHD is faster than the competition but it’s still not what we wish to get. All users who need fast storage will pick SSD that are getting cheaper lately while all those who need larger storage space will pick standard HDD as they’re cheaper when we look at $ per GB. So who could take an advantage from SSHD ? Probably only those who are thinking about single drive, low power solution like laptops or HTPC. For those users SSHD seem perfect because of higher than HDD performance and lower price per each GB.
I wish to see SSHD with at least 20GB NAND what could improve performance as 8GB is not enough for most users. The same cache limits we can find in other SSHD brands.
Toshiba SSHD in 1TB version cost about $85 on Amazon or other online stores. It’s about $25 more than a regular 1TB HDD. Hard to judge if it’s big difference considering about 20% higher performance. Let’s say all depends for what are you going to use this drive.

Toshiba 1TB SSHD is a good drive and it’s hard not to agree. However it doesn’t fit into all groups of users and with current market prices it’s not always best option. For gamers I would recommend SSD like already reviewed well performing Toshiba HG6 series and for those who wish larger storage device at lower cost, regular HDD what you can also find in the Toshiba’s offer.
SSHD is still best option for all who are looking for a larger single drive for a laptop or home PC.
