Wing’s Blog – Battlefield 1 & Civilization VI

Battlefield 1

I can remember my first taste of the Battlefield series, I can’t recall the name but it had lots of Vietnamese soldiers running about, and I realized I loved the chaos of it all. Massive team on both sides hell bent on killing each other with everything at their disposal with guns, grenades, planes, bikes, trucks, tanks, etc. I’m one of those sneaky bastards that like to hide several kilometers away from the action, behind a tree and pick enemies off with my sniper rifle.

Battlefield 1

As I new a dozen or so of my colleagues already bought the game, I thought I’d join in on the fun and show them just how much of a git I can be with a sniper rifle. So I went our and bought a copy for my PS4 (there’s no way in hell I’m downloading it on my 6Mb internet line!), and that’s where my frustrations started.

The internet has ruined the first impressions of a game, and has spoilt the game developers. In a bid to meet deadlines and rush games out, the games nowadays are released in a pile of mess. Remember when The Division had something like 1000 bugs upon release? So to get the game to run properly, the developers release updates before the damn games are released, which means the copy of the game you have on a disk is already out of date. Insert the disk and now I had to download a 3.5Gb file so I can actually play it…….

2 days later I managed to get my first gaming session on Battlefield 1. I’ve always wondered this but how the hell do you guys play a first person shooter with a gamepad? I’m used to the combination of mouse and keyboard on Counterstrike, and using the gamepad is like aiming in slow motion. And now I realize I cannot just camp out and snipe anymore, as once I’ve killed someone the game shows them where I am……

Battlefield 1

Aside from all these gripes, Battlefield 1 is just awesome. The gameplay, the huge detailed maps, and the graphics quality, this game is just superb. Throw it on and get a bunch of mates together with you, and Battlefield 1 will bring you hours of fun and laughter.
