Wing’s Blog – Prime Lens & Overwatch Stress Levels

Overwatch

So I’ve managed to get hold of a copy of Overwatch for my PS4 for a week now, and I’m reminded of just how crap I am at first person shooters.

The game itself is sleek, you’re naturally lulled into a false sense that you can play this game well, only to find out you’ve pressed the wrong button on the controller pad yet again. In no way is the game complex; its just that my 40+ year old brain can’t remember which buttons does what just a few minutes into each round.

Each character that you can choose for within Overwatch has different skills and abilities, so choose wisely, pick one that will suit your style. Personally, I tend to treat multiplayer FPS games as a way of stress-relief so I tend to pick characters that are mobile and shoot guns, no point in playing a character that builds turrets and have all the fun given to the turrets whilst you stand in the corner of the map trying to figure out where the next best place is to place the next turret. Having said that, Overwatch is a team-based game, so you have rounds where your team is either on the attack of you’re defending something, so choosing a character to suit your team is important………not that I cared, I just wanted to shoot things!!

Whilst in other multiplayer FPS games, before a round starts when the game is trying to gather enough players for the game, you tend to stare at a loading screen, with an estimated amount of time before the game will start thats always incorrect. With Overwatch, these waiting times aren’t there, you get to play random skirmish games that do not count for anything other than to shoot at your opponents and try out different characters.

Overwatch

As with any multiplayer FPS, you’re going to encounter some serious hardcore gamers from time to time, which makes you realize what an utter useless player you really are. Every other round the server would put me up against some super skilled 14 year old to hand my butt to me on a platter. As Overwatch is the only multiplayer FPS game I have, its the go to stress reliever for me, only to get so frustrated playing against these super kids, leading to an increase in my stress levels and frustration.

I can see why Overwatch has grown so big in such a short space of time, with eSports tournaments playing it already; it is a fun game. Because the graphics have a more cartoon feel, playing on a smaller laptop screen or on a 60″ TV in your condo doesn’t really take away much from the game itself. I’ve been asked by Winston to write a review of Overwatch, I could stick in video clips of my gameplay, only to realize that most of the videos would just show how much I sucked at it.
