Wing’s Blog – Retro Gaming

There has been so many great games that were released in the last few years, the likes of Battlefield 1, the ever-improving Football Managers, FIFAs and PESs, and the likes of GTAs, that you can get caught up in all the new shiny graphics and gameplay. Every so often I will kick back and go back to retro gaming, it just brings back so many happy memories, and more importantly my standard for these games are not so high so I don’t get frustrated with bugs and glitches.

It doesn’t help with recent news of the launch of the mini-SNES and all things related to Nintendo has really got me itching.

I’m a huge fan of the Football Manager series, and started playing them way back when they were previously called Championship Manager. Even though the newer titles have so much more complex mechanics built in, further immersing you as a role of a football manager, the 99/00 edition is still one of the best ones out there due to its relative simplicity, wonderkid gems and stacks and stacks of world class football players. I just found a version online and its only 8.8Mb!!!!

But I digress, Championship Manager 99/00 shouldn’t really be classified as retro. So with that in mind, I thought back to my Mario days and went looking for a SNES emulator, and found one that works pretty well by the name of SNES 9x. Grab yourself a SMES ROM, load it up within the emulator, and memories flood back.

I forgot one thing here, loading one of your previous classic games also means losing several hours of your life. Can you beat your previous best? Can you explore or the areas which you didn’t do 20 years ago?
