HKEF 2016 – MiniWing A380 Drone

The MiniWing A380 drone raised many heads at CES earlier this year, both for its capabilities and pricing. Retailing will start in June of this year, with 2 models being released; a 4K version priced at USD$799, and a 1080p version at USD$599.

MiniWing A380 Drone

With its built-in smart functions such as one-key take-off and landing, follow-me function, auto-return home and direct fly mode, the MiniWing A380 was designed of the beginner. For those that have flown a drone with no auto landing will testify that it is a skill you need to master if you do not want to smash your drone onto the floor every time you want to land it.

With it’s replaceable 6000 mAh battery, the MiniWing A380 will allow you to have 33 minutes of flight time, with a 500m distance for live video flight mode, and can fly up to 1000m. It’s inbuilt GPS will allow it remain stationary and hover, and along with a 3-Axis gimbal on the in-built camera, it will allow you to take great videos and photos.

The one downside to many enthusiasts right now is that the MiniWing A380 is only for iPhone users, as the current smartphone app to both control and view from the A380’s camera is only available for iPhones. Rest assured though as we were informed that an Android version of the smartphone app is currently in development.

MiniWing A380 Controller

Let me tell you, we cannot wait to get our hands on a MiniWing A380; we were itching to try one out at HKEF but it was only to be flown by their own company reps there. You may initial think that the MiniWing A380 is still quite expensive, but when you look closely at all the inbuilt features, the one competitor that instantly springs to mind is the DJI Phantom 4, the MiniWing A380 is just missing the anti-collision sensors on the Phantom 4.

Comparatively the MiniWing A380 has a top speed of around 33.5mph compared to the Phantom 4’s 45mph, but the MiniWing’s battery life is 5 minutes more, which means 5 minutes more of aerial fun! When you factoring that you’ll most probably carry a spare battery with you, that adds up to over an hour’s worth of flying time.

But here’s the crunch; whilst the DJI Phantom 4 retails for USD$1399, the higher-priced 4K version of the MiniWing A380 retails for nearly half that price at USD$799!

We at FunkyKit is really excited for all this, not only for the release of the MiniWing A380, but also at that rate of development from MiniWing being such a young company literally reaching for new heights! And I’ve been saving my pennies in hope that I can get one.
